The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council held a meeting to study the State of Qatar's file on the effects caused by the siege countries on aviation and on air safety and security.

The Council decided to extend the duration of its session, as on July 6, a meeting will be held at the ICAO Regional Office to discuss the technical file of the State of Qatar, followed by another meeting, also this month, at the headquarters of the organisation in Montreal to find legal solutions to the technical file submitted by Qatar.

Meanwhile, Minister of Transport and Communications H E Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti, lauded the role played by the ICAO. He stressed that the siege countries' violations of the safety and security of aviation are contrary to all the customs and conventions binding on all parties highlighting the serious consequences that they cause for air safety and security.

The Minister expressed hope that ICAO Executive Council would expedite the adoption of appropriate resolutions on air traffic, the violations of international law by the siege countries, pursuant to the dispute resolution mechanism adopted by the organization and the opening of air routes for Qatar's national carrier.

The Minister also met with the President of ICAO Council, Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu and Secretary-General Dr Fang Liu.The meeting addressed the siege countries' violations of aviation safety and security, which contravenes all norms and conventions.

Qatar's Ambassador to Canada Fahad Mohammed Yousif Kafood and Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority, Abdullah bin Nasser Turki Al Subaey attended the meeting. The Minister reviewed Qatar's just demands of the right to air passage as well as the siege countries' violations of international law, particularly Article 54 of Chicago Convention in 1944.

The Minister urged the siege countries to respect the law and the agreed conventions that explicitly state the mentioned rights in action rather than in speech and stipulate the right to passage in line with the law that has been respected only by Qatar, stressing that the siege countries must respect the country's right to sovereignty and not to implement the law of the jungle.
