Expedia Brings a Taste of Colombia to New Orleans Jazz Fest

Have you seen the larger-than-life art installation ‘Para Sol, Para Todos’ featured at the Cultural Exchange Pavilion of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival yet? Expedia, the official travel partner for Jazz Fest and title sponsor for the Cultural Exchange Pavilion, has brought a taste of Colombia to the heart of the festival fairgrounds with this captivating creation.

The mission behind Expedia’s involvement was to create a visual icon and communal gathering space that reflects the global influences converging in New Orleans for Jazz Fest. Taking inspiration from this year’s Cultural Exchange Pavilion country, Colombia, and one of New Orleans’ most iconic cultural elements, the second line parasol, Expedia collaborated with local Colombian-American artist Basqo Bim to design and create ‘Para Sol, Para Todos’ (“For Sun, For Everyone”).

This custom art installation is a creative fusion of Colombian and New Orleans cultures:

The color palette, inspired by Expedia’s signature yellow and complemented by the blue, red, white, and gold of the Colombian flag, reflects the vibrancy of both cultures.
Adornments pay homage to the traditional lace and fringe elements of a second line umbrella.
Hand-painted artwork features brass bands, the iconic striped Vueltiao hat, and roses, influenced by Colombian floriculture and the annual Festival of Flowers, all within Basqo’s signature character style.
‘Para Sol, Para Todos’ serves festival-goers as an engaging art piece, celebrating the fusion between Colombia and New Orleans culture. It also provides an easy-to-spot gathering place and offers cover from both sun and showers at this year’s Jazz Fest.

Expedia, known for its dedication to travel experiences, is proud to be the Official Travel Partner for Jazz Fest and the title sponsor for the Cultural Exchange Pavilion, located at the heart of the festival grounds.
